Why parents come to us

Two very different children. One approach that works for both.

Losing confidence in Maths?

If homework ends in tears, marks are slipping, or your child has decided they’re “just not a Maths person”, we rebuild the foundations gently and bring the confidence back.

Bored and unchallenged?

Some children finish the work and switch off. We give them richer problems, puzzles and real engineering challenges, stretching them without it feeling like more school.

Maths that is understood, not just memorised.

Many learners are taught Maths as a set of rules or procedures to memorise. At I Can Maths, we focus on helping children understand why those rules work.

Maths should make sense. That is why we use pictures, games and real-life situations to make concepts more visual, practical and enjoyable.

When children understand the thinking behind Maths, they become more confident, make fewer guesses and remember what they have learnt.

Where we teach

I Can Maths sessions take place in Durbanville, Cape Town, from a dedicated learning space designed to be calm, focused and welcoming.

Our story

Started with a mother’s belief. Continued with a daughter’s passion.

I Can Maths began with my mother, a high school teacher who saw how many learners were struggling because they had missed the basic understanding they needed to build on. She believed that every child can do Maths when they are given the right support, the right teaching methods and the chance to understand concepts in a way that makes sense.

With a love for children and a passion to help, she studied remedial teaching and started I Can Maths to help learners catch up, rebuild confidence and believe in themselves again.

That belief shaped my own love for Maths and eventually led me to become a civil engineer. For the past 15 years, I have used Maths in practical, real-world ways: through design, measurement, planning and problem-solving.

But my own passion for teaching was truly ignited when I had the opportunity to lecture Maths to first-year business students. Watching students move from fear and uncertainty to confidence and enjoyment showed me how powerful the right support can be.

Today, I am building on my mother’s foundation by combining her passion for teaching and remedial support with my practical love for Maths.

At I Can Maths, we believe in Maths that makes sense, helping children catch up, build confidence and discover that Maths is something they can understand, enjoy and actually do.
